After what finally feels like a very long year so far Me and Mrs Lyons finally had a bit of a break, and it was awesome. Skegness probably isn’t the place on everyone’s thoughts when their thinking of going away for the weekend but as a photographer who likes to get outside finding themselves stuck inside a lot….well, what can I say?
So where to start? This is going to be a little bit like getting out the old projector to show holiday snaps, but bare with me it won’t be that bad (I hope).
Arriving in the evening and being close to the pier I couldn’t help but notice this bench between the two lights and thought it might make for a good composition. Overall I’m happy with how it turned out with the hazy purple sky as the sun sets and the old Victorian style lamps along the edge of the pier giving off a nice glow. I’ve thrown this image into the free downloads section for anyone who wants a higher res copy for a pretty wallpaper or such
So late on in the evening I got this notion that I wasn’t going to get any decent golden hour shots due to the sun setting behind the houses and being a bit cloudy, so some drastic action was in order……waking up early. I’m not a late sleeper by any means but the thought of waking up at 4:30am while on holiday as a difficult feat to overcome. But I managed it, and I could not be happier. I think walking along a beach first thing in the morning might be my new favourite hobby (after photography and snowboarding).
Just look at that! If you don’t like that then there’s obviously something wrong with you, or you hate the ocean in which case fair play because it is full of jelly fish that will paralyze you. Anyway, I thought I would do something a bit different with this image and decided to create a ‘Print Of The Month’. The general idea being I post a new photograph every month and have a run of limited edition signed prints. It seemed like a good idea in my head and if it gets me creating more photographs then who am I to argue.
So this is the last one for now (I’ve got a fair few to get to and I don’t want to bore you). I thought I would give intentional camera shake a go (I swear that it was intentional and I wasn’t drunk on cider from the nearby bar). Personally I think it’s got an interesting abstract feel to it but it’s lacking something, maybe something in the middle of the image to focus on? Anyway, poke me on twitter with what you think, it’s always good to get feedback.
