Hi all. How’s it going? Last weekend I did another new thing. This month seems like a lot of new things for me, and it’s all part of me driving myself and trying to stay focused on photography. With a lot of my hobbies I seem to do something for a few months and then circle around to another. But this time I want to keep at photography and give it a lot more love. And I am loving it. I’m loving Twitter more than ever (best photography community ever, you all know who you are!) and I’m really loving the type of photographs that I’m taking.
So what did I do new last weekend that’s got me excited? I did one of those walk and talk video things for my YouTube channel! I’ve been considering doing it ever since I started the channel, especially seeing great photographers who I follow in that space such as Nigel Danson, Simon Booth and James Popsys make it seem so effortless (disclaimer: it is not, how they stay sane I do not know…I might make a video on that one day).

So I guess a few questions. Why did I do it? Initially it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while to push myself outside my comfort zone. That’s what the channel is about a little. To share more of me, rather than just the photographs I produce, and YouTube seems to be a great platform for that. The good thing is I feel like I got a lot more out of it than expected. Being able to talk through my images while I’m taking them, and then being able to show them zoomed in on the details. That made my day and I’m really happy I could share that.
Another question is do I still need this blog? I called my first walking/talking video a vlog. I’m still not settled on that name for it. It didn’t really feel like a vlog in the same way this is. But maybe that’s fine? I did decide to spend some time talking about my Nikon Z6 (and not the D7200 has not gone in the bin), mostly because I was going to write a blog about that but decided a video while taking photographs would be better. And also here I am writing a blog about my vlog. So do I still need a blog? Hell yes. A video takes a long time for me to produce, a bit of prep and other considerations that just aren’t a concern when hammering letters out on a keyboard. So my blog is here to stay. Phew.
If you haven’t seen it yet below is the video (as you can guess I’m pretty happy about it). Also I chose the final image as my October print of the month so head over there for a closer look after watching the video: https://www.scottlyons.co.uk/shop/p/oct-2021-thieves-wood
